Burrard Arts Foundation is a non-profit visual arts organization in Vancouver founded in 2014. The mission of the Burrard Arts Foundation (BAF) is to promote the development of, and excellence in, the visual arts in Canada – accomplished through innovative art projects and programs. BAF seeks to advance the understanding and appreciation of the arts by showcasing local and global artistic talent and dialogue from creative minds of today and tomorrow in dynamic ways. Our objective is to provide opportunities that enable artists to produce their work and share it with the world. From murals, to sculpture, to installation art and beyond, we aim to engage all people through fun and inspiring public art projects done in collaboration with outstanding artists from Canada and abroad.
Within our gallery and studio space, we promote and exhibit contemporary art in an environment that aims to be open and accessible to everyone. The BAF Gallery has a special focus of providing assistance to promising, qualified emerging artists through a professional development residency program. In addition, BAF conducts a yearly exhibition program, showcasing both local and international artists.
Roles & Responsibilities
The BAF Gallery Intern role will include:
1. Gallery attending:
• Visitor interaction
• Educating the public about BAF’s mandate, exhibitions, partnerships and public art initiatives
2. Event support:
• Aiding in the setup and takedown of gallery shows
• Opening night event support
3. Administrative tasks:
• Compiling reports
• Social media engagement and PR
4. Curatorial and grant research:
• Researching local, provincial and federal grants
• Assisting in the preparation and submission of grants
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a local accredited institution, partaking in their third or fourth year in a contemporary arts related program. Experience with grant writing and/or art-crit journalism is considered an asset.
