Randy Grskovic uses various types of photographic production to investigate the fixed image. Grskovic disrupts the fixed image by distorting found images to create new ones. For the past 3 years Grskovic has been collecting vintage negatives from Ebay, sold as “collectibles” along with other kitsch objects. For him, the film is a 3 dimensional transparent object to alter. Through traditional black and white darkroom printing Grskovic extracted the collaged negatives into a positive on the paper. For this exhibition Grskovic also investigated the plasticity of the material by combining various acrylic and vinyl elements with the found negatives. His interest lies in the interruption of photographic tropes to challenge our understanding of historic composition and content.
Randy Grskovic is an artist and collector from British Columbia, currently working in Toronto, Ontario. For the past 10 years he has been investigating the image archive creating collages that highlight underlying philosophical issues concerning our current political discourse. Grskovic has shown across Canada and been included in exhibitions at Equinox Gallery and A Space in Vancouver, L’oiel du Poison in Quebec, Gallery 44 in Ontario and Easter Edge in St. Johns Newfoundland. Internationally, Gestaltin publishing in Berlin recognized him in “The Age of Collage” a survey of artists working in the medium. Katzman Contemporary now represents Grskovic in Canada and Galleri Tryfelgrissen represents his work in Europe. He currently works out of the Gallery 44’s darkroom production facilities and is employed at Toronto Image works.
